My stress levels were so high that even if I had the time or money to buy a spa, I wouldn't be able to relax. Whatever needs to be done will still be waiting for me after my appointment.

Overburdening spa services is not just a practical idea for people with tight budgets, limited childcare availability, and high stress levels.

My new theory is that true self-care involves setting routines and boundaries, simplifying life, and having a strong support system.

When stressed, our needs are often our last priority or we don't put them on the list at all. We may be the breadwinner of the family, the keeper of the hearth, or the peacekeepers among relatives.

In such cases, we turn into Sisyphus, and roll the proverbial boulder upwards - except that we trade the boulder for an endless list of tasks.

When someone admits they are drowning in too many directions, it is best not to say anything about the self-care they should be doing.

For someone who is already desperately trying to take care of everything, it adds another thing that they fail.

For me, when I tried to explain to a girlfriend why I was feeling overwhelmed, she made the well-intentioned suggestion to "Go and book a massage!"

Aside from the fact that my budget couldn't afford it, I was an exhausted and exhausted mother. The last thing I wanted was to pay someone to touch me more.

What I really needed was practical help, like someone to entertain my baby, so that I could go to the bathroom on my own. I needed advice on tough work situations, or what to eat for dinner.

The countless little things were overwhelming. My urgent need was not self-care, but community-based care.

Foundations of self-care

After meeting urgent needs, I needed to reconfigure my life for sustainability.

I've made three major changes:

  1. I made a daily routine.
  2. I bow to my community.
  3. I set value-based limits.

First, I prioritized building my community. Even if you never ask for help, knowing you can relieve stress. I intentionally scheduled activities related to my highest values ​​and said no to anything irrelevant.

If you're like me, saying no is hard. I still feel guilty, but it's getting easier. The times when I said yes was when I didn't want to provoke resentment and burdened my schedule.

Previously, it allowed the chaos of life to infringe on vigilance and spiritual practices.

Being empowered to say doesn't mean I was better able to maintain the above practices. With healthy boundaries, I'll really be able to enjoy the massage if I get it.

I have six suggestions that don't require spending a lot of money, if any at all. What they are asking for is an act of meditation and a commitment to yourself.

Check the flow of your kitchen

If you are the person in your household who bears the mental burden of feeding the family, improving the flow of the kitchen will add much-needed efficiency.

Treat these three things:

  • Shopping list
  • Noise
  • Accommodation

Keep a running shopping list

Enforce a rule, when someone else uses the last item, they add it to the list.

This helps in two ways. It takes less time to prepare for shopping because the list will be (mostly) complete already.

It also prevents an unwelcome last-minute surprise that you've run out of an important ingredient for the meal you planned or, God forbid, toilet paper.

De-clutter your space

Get rid of appliances, utensils, or other items that are not actually in use. They make it hard to find and organize what you actually use.

Even if you store it away, remove it from the work area.

Prepare your kitchen the way you use it

Make a lot of freezer meals? Consider storing your freezer bags somewhere where you don't have to search to find them. Hungry kids? Put in already washed fruit, so that it becomes an easy snack that does not require you to stop and help someone.

You might be surprised how much time and energy you'll save from eliminating interruptions.

Organize your workspace

Every adult deserves an organized workplace. If you're going to be a stay-at-home parent, don't cut back on the work you do to manage your family. You are still worthy of your place.

They all sat down, not allowing the rest. Clean up anything that has nothing to do with your job. This will eliminate the need to search for items such as pens, calculators, or power cords for each work session.

Don't know what you need? In week 1, you will use the checklist. Commit to having these things available to you and keeping those who do not have them in good working order.

Optimize your morning routine

If you wake up in a hurry, your day will look bad.

A morning routine will help you to know where everything is, what is expected and how your duties will be carried out and done well. This can help you feel energized and ready to start your day.

Morning routines may include things like;

  • Keep the phone off for a predetermined time
  • planning the day

The most important thing is to be sustainable with your routine. Everyone is not free. Instead, divide your schedule into 15 to 30 minutes.

Here is the non-negotiable trinity in the morning: drink water, move and focus.

We've all heard of the benefits of healthy water, so start your day with a glass of water.

It moves the rest. Relax with some stretching or wake up with a warm-up, whatever works best for you.

So take a moment to focus on your mind. Please meditate or visualize whatever is best.

Make it easier to exercise at night

The same is true of nighttime exercise. When we're in front of the TV or on our cell phone, electronic lights and excitement can disrupt sleep.

Try to turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bed. Use this time to make it easier for you to take care of yourself, eat, and settle down.

Do you need something from the freezer for lunch? Massage before bed. Do you bring lunch to work? Do them now.

Do these exercises in the same order every day to build muscle memory. This way you can make them easily and without much thought and stress.

It also prepares your mind and body for sleep and eliminates the last minute rush in the morning.

Enjoy the rest of the day

People benefit from regular, cyclical bursts of dating. This is built into traditions like the Sabbath in Judaism.

Even if you are not religious, set a time for fruit every week. Give yourself permission to try something good.

Here are some initial ideas;

  • take a leisurely walk around the neighborhood
